XLR-8
Description Acceleration is a change in velocity over time. This is one of the slower coasters in the park: if the 50 ft/sec that Six Flags advertises is correct, that translates to only 34 miles per hour. It's got two lifthills, and no real drop. It was the first successful Arrow Suspended coaster ever put into operation, and it was built for SFAW in 1984. When XLR-8 debuted, we all thought it was a neat ride, but far more intense rides have been erected. Of the 10 Arrow Suspended coasters still in operation around the world, XLR-8 has the longest track length of any of them. However, it should be noted that when XLR-8 debuted, it's goal was to get it to work, not the intensity of the coaster.
This ride was also originally to be part of the "Six Flags Ride Rotation Program" that seems have ended long ago, as XLR-8 was originally planned to be at SFAW for only three years (which is the reason it doesn't have a "real" queue house).
For the past few years, XLR-8 has run with half of it's trains backwards, thus being the only Arrow suspended coaster in the world doing so. |
