|
|
There have been operations changes for AstroWorld’s closing weekend (October 29-30)
a. The park will be closed on Friday, October 28
b. The park hours will be 10am - 6pm on Saturday, October 29
c. The park hours will be 10am - 6pm on Sunday, October 30
d. Guests will need to have a pre-purchased ticket, season pass, or an invite to the employee reunion to get in, as AstroWorld will NOT be selling tickets at the park on the 29th or 30th. |

| Do you (or does anyone) know why? Are they worried about security at night? Does closing at 6 mean they'll close the entrance at 6 but keep the park open later (just because it will take a long time to get everyone out)? |

Not sure...I'm sure it has something to do with how many people they are expecting.
If you plan on going this weekend...go early. If the park reaches capacity they may end up turning people away. _________________ Jason |

Closing means the time people must leave the park. You can not stay in after 6. I am very sure the front gates will be closed well before that. |

I know that's what it normally means. Anyway, why do you think they are doing this? Is it so they can have more people working during the time it is open? What about Friday? Is it security concerns? |

Everyone is concentrating on the closing times....has anyone noticed the park is opening at 10am both days instead of noon? _________________ Jason |

Wow, I sure didn't. Good thing, or I would have been late
I guess I was hoping for a few more night rides. |

| I think this is a kick in the butt to all fans and that Six Flags really sucks (then again is that really news?). |

I have no clue for the reason they are closing Friday.
They are closing early Saturday for the Employee Reunion Party (but also open 2 hours earlier than originally planned which means 2 hours of the day are lost instead of 4).
On Sunday they are also open 2 hours earlier than planned resulting in a 1 hour loss instead of 3. _________________ Jason |

| Right, both Saturday and Sunday are 8 hour operating days, which isn't so bad. But I have no idea what's going on Friday... I'm sure there's a good reason, but it does seem strange. |

I was wondering the same thing but I think I know the answer to that:
On fridays the park is open from 6-12. So I'm guessin that people actually left at around the 1 oclock hour if they were lucky. (last friday was kinda busy and the 1st friday that the sad news posted was busy as well) Then the park opened at 12 oclock which means everyone should be there at least an hour before park open. Thats 9 hours between shifts. Now if they had the park open this coming friday and have the new park hours 10-9, the 8 hr rule that from my understanding most if not all jobs have wouldn't comply because being the last weekend i figure no one will be getting out at their usual times and even if they waived the 8 hr rule would you really trust someone with your life with someone who has had only a couple hrs between work shifts... I would be kinda nervous myself.. so thats my educated guess... makes sense to me hope it does to everyone else:?
Then I was thinking why don't they just keep the original fright fest hrs.. well some of my reasonings might comply with the friday night/saturday morning thing.. but sunday may also be a real concern because a good number of the employees are in some kind of school.. and with sunday being the last day I am more than sure that right at park closing the lines are going to be out of this world so i'm guessing rides lasting a few hrs after park closing which means many people missing out on education the following monday.. and education is priority. My solution: OPEN THE PARK FOR THE 2006 SEASON AND PUT A NEW COASTER OVER THE DEMOLISHED WW.. but of course that is not on Mr. Burkes agenda but thats a whole other topic... _________________ Fin |

| When I called asking about the chages they said the decisions came from corporate and also stated lack of staffing as another reason... |

Long hours wouldn't have anything to do with it. That's why you stagger. Not everyone works Friday nights, at least I would hope not. |

Well, even if the start time on Saturday and Sunday is moved up 2 hours, making a loss on Saturday of 2 hours and Sunday of 1 hour, this is nonetheless VERY disappointing for those who love the magic of the park after dark.
The Friday night especially is a great time to rack up night rides.
The park would have been open 25 hours this weekend, with 10 of those at night.
Instead we have 16 hours, with ZERO at night - a big difference in how one's last memories of being in the park will be, IMO.
On Sunday night I spent the last half hour riding the train, since I heard it would be it's last run ever, instead of riding the Cyclone at closing as I usually do, hoping to get a few fill ins on the last couple of trains with empty seats. I don't regret doing that since at the time I thought there would be night rides for 3 nights this weekend.
But in hindsight now it sure is disappointing knowing I'll never get to ride things like Cyclone, Viper, and Bamboo Shoot at night ever again
Also, instead of walking out quickly after closing Sunday night because I was hungry and wanted to get back to the hotel to see the end of the Astros game, had I known I would NEVER get to see the park at night again, I would have walked very slowly and SAVORED every last bit of the nighttime ambiance.
I'm not surprised this came from corporate, they suck!
