OK, here's the setup:

You just won the lotto and struck a deal with SF. You've got some land, you want to rebuild AW, and SF has agreed to let you choose your rides.

You can have THREE coasters, ONE water ride, and FIVE other rides.

Only those rides that were running in 2005 are available.

What do you choose to begin your "new and improved" AW?
What changes would you make to the rides you chose to make them better?

Here's my choice:

Coasters:
[1] TxCyclone
[2] Greezy
[3] Viper

Water:
[1] Bamboo Shoot

Other:
[1] Swat
[2] Taxis
[3] Carousel
[4] Dungeon Drop
[5] Cable Cars

CHANGES:
Tx Cyclone gets 4-bench PTCs and gets reprofiled to original specs. Structure modified to meet current codes.

Greezy gets enclosed from the back of the station to halfway up the first spike. Fog and strobes added to the launch sequence.

Viper gets another tunnel on the bunny hop before the final turn.

Bamboo Shoot gets an interactive element. Walking paths all along the route have remote geyser triggers (put in a quarter, push a button, try to geyser the riders).

The "other" rides remain mostly unchanged.

That makes three of us, anyway. I would at the very least salvage the Texas Cyclone and store the parts in a warehouse somewhere until a suitable location for it is found.

I'd pick Cyclone, Ultra Twister and XLR8 as my coasters, Thunder River for the water ride and as for the five others: Gunslinger, Looping Starship, Warp 2000, SWAT and Dungeon Drop.

I'd then put in a new suspension coaster, a hyper, an X-style ride and a new multi-loop traditional coaster, kinda like Zonga.

Park cleanliness would be priority one. Fresh coats of paint would be more frequent.

I'd keep the park open all year round, like Magic Mountain. I mean, come on, it's Houston... freezing icy weather is rare there, and it only snows once every 15 years or so. I'd bring back Holiday In The Park, of course.

I'd also implement the Fastpass system and offer half-price admission after 5pm, as well as reduced-rate season passes after August 1st.

You know there were some of us who always wanted to enclose the launch track. We'd have built a built a series of false building fronts from the station building down to the flywheel building. to hide the enclosed launch tube. It would have made the area look like a western main street.

I know that when planning was being done for GL (and before the name was chosen) there were ideas to theme it with an oil well theme. The two end spikes would have been themed as oil dereks. There was even an idea to put a water fountain at the top of the front hill and have it spew forth when the train went up it. A kind of 'oil gusher' if you will.

I had submitted an idea to enclose Viper. I thought Viper's tunnel would be so cool if it extend down the first drop and around the loop, then you would be brought into daylight.

Sorry to jump too far from your idea of picking from what SF gives you....I'd basically just rebuild the park to its 1975 specs...throw in Cyclone, Greezy, UltraTwister and Dungeon Drop...not have Spinout (the cars could be intertwined with the Taxis going through the mountain...the mountain would be extended back creating a cave/tunnel for 610 Limited to pass through and a drop-into-cave for the first drop on UltraTwister (you'd fall into darkness and then out into the light on UT). UT would be rethemed as a crazy-out of control-mountain-mine ride with a more alpine theme...the 610 Limited Ghost Town would be rebuilt closer to Western Junction, but still have that middle of nowhere effect...the pedestrian bridge would still be built at the new location, but with a new purpose - it would connect with a modern day themed section of the park and would go over a huge man-made river with steamships providing Tom Sawyer style rides. A new huge island would be somewhere in the middle of this river with wilderness/Tom Sawyer style theming and a modern day version of Swamp Buggy. Nottingham would be expanded out and a huge medieval castle would be its own attraction and would also house parts of the Excalibur track - a new and improved Excalibur would be built with all new track mirror imaging the original design. Dungeon Drop would contain holographic images that you would see below as you fall...a waterpark would be constructed...Marvel McFey would get his own huge section with plenty of themed rides including RubaDub and Frieda's Pond...a waterpark would also be built onsite doubling the size of WaterWorld and would contain the waterski show and a separate theatre for the dolphin show..Coney Island would be recreated with a wooden boardwalk...with simulated ocean waves crashing below it...and some other similar Coney Island NY style rides...the park would be called "Hofheinz's Astroworld"

Rub-a-Dub and Freida's Pond!!!!!!!!

OMG I think I just had a flashback.

I look at the arial pics of the park when it opened and think "LOOK AT ALL THAT EMPTY LAND!!!"

Someone should've thought far enough ahead to buy some expansion space.

My three rides would be
Grezzy
TX Cyclone
XLR

Water ride: Bambo Shoot

Other:
Swat
Astroway/cable cars
Taxis
Dungeen Drop

I'd leave Grezzy alone, its perfect already.
I would try to, given current codes, make the Cyclone as close to its original 1976 version.
I would have the loading area of Dungeon drop underground and more like a real dungeon. As the ride started you would rise out of the "dungeon" then drop down back into the dungeon.
On XLR8 you would load at one location then go through the ride but unload at another location. kind of like the Astroway. Since the cars have floors you could take your belongings with you. Wouldn't it be cool to load onto this futuristic train in Western junction and then ride over to Mexican area!?
And on Bambo Shoot I would plant as much real bambo and brush as possible to give the riders a feeling of really going on an exotic boast ride.

We HAD the expansion space - back in the Hofheinz days - but he had to sell it off to pay off debts. I'm sure any other land grabs would've went the same route.

In RCT, I often build coasters (usually woodies) that run around the perimeter of the park with at least four stations. Basically, I use a wood coaster as a transportation device rather than a train ride.

Not only is it much more exciting than a train, but it insures that no matter which way you look while in the park, you see wood coaster structure!
