Found these pics on a SFNO fan site. Very spooky looking.

They probably don't care because they have no plans on reopening it. All the buildings and most of the rides were destroyed by the flood. They already took out the only ride really worth saving.

I think those pictures are generous to be honest. The entire park sat in standing water for weeks. I am not sure how old those pics are, but I bet they are not very recent.

A lot of New Orleans looks like that despite all the recovery news you hear about.

The ones I shot were taken in late August, about two months ago. As I reported on SFNO.com, nothing much has changed in the past couple of years. The most striking visual damage is to the trees in the surrounding area. There must have been extremely high winds there, being much closer to the eye than the rest of the city. Additionally, the water that flooded that area was very salty, from the Gulf, and apparently killed most of the trees out there.

Tron, Thanks for the pictures and letting us know when you took them. I was looking at the area on Google Earth and the thing that struck me were all the dead trees.

I wonder how long it will take to settle the insurance claims so something can happen to the property.

I've seen that Google has satellite imagery of New Orleans that is post-Katrina. From certain landmarks around the city and in my own neighborhood, it seems like the satellite pass occurred in early to mid 2006. Check out all those blue roofs! Most are gone now, but there are still tons of FEMA trailers around the city and even in the suburbs, to an extent.

On a brighter note, I'm hoping to get over to Kemah to check out the Boardwalk Bullet. I'm hearing some very good things about it Smile Since they have year-round operation, I think I'll ride it in February, the only month in which I haven't been on a coaster.

Wow that looks kind of spooky! That would make a great location for a horror flick. I can see it now... A group of teens get stranded in an abandoned theme park... and the action ensues!
