Industry Announcements: Galveston Island Waterpark chooses management team

Posted at 5:55 PM EST (2255 GMT)

Mar. 2nd, 2006 -- GALVESTON ISLAND, TEXAS – Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Waterpark announces that they have chosen key management team members.

Robert Clark has been named revenue manager for the new 15-acre waterpark opening this summer on Galveston Island. He oversees the day-to-day operations of food, beverage and retail merchandising. Clark brings more than a decade of retail experience to the Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Waterpark team. Prior to joining the Schlitterbahn organization, Clark worked for Six Flags AstroWorld in Houston.

Bresean Cockrell, admissions manager, manages the park’s admissions department and is responsible for ticketing and accounting operations. Previously, Cockrell served in a similar capacity at Six Flags AstroWorld.

As the head of the park’s human resources department, Martin Coll assumes the duties of staff services manager, including training, hiring and managing staff members. He has held human resource positions at a variety of companies including Hilton St. Helens, St. Helens, England and Six Flags AstroWorld.

Another Six Flags AstroWorld alumni, maintenance manager Neal Jerome oversees the Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Waterpark maintenance department. He is responsible for attraction inspection and maintenance, along with preventative facility maintenance.

Operations manager Doug White handles operations and aquatics activities in the park including lifeguard training and supervision. White has been with the Schlitterbahn organization for more than a decade, most recently overseeing park operations at Schlitterbahn Beach Waterpark located on South Padre Island, Texas.
Melissa White, marketing and sales manager, facilitates all marketing, advertising, communications and promotional initiatives for the park. She comes to Galveston Island from South Padre Island where she handled marketing and sales for Schlitterbahn Beach Waterpark.

These six managers report to Ron Sutula, general manager of Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Waterpark. “We have a dynamic management team in place and we have begun hiring seasonal staff as well,” Sutula said. “We’re on track to open the nation’s newest waterpark by summer.” Sutula described Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Waterpark as the world’s first “convertible waterpark” with closeable sections for indoor/outdoor, year-round operation. Attractions include a unique interconnecting Transportainment® river system plus a wave pool, uphill water coasters, water slides, kid's playgrounds, hot tubs and the Boogie Bahn surf ride.

The new Galveston Island park is Schlitterbahn’s third Texas waterpark. Family owned and operated, Schlitterbahn Waterparks has been a leader in family water entertainment since 1979. The 65-acre Schlitterbahn Waterpark Resort in New Braunfels is consistently rated the most popular summertime waterpark in the United States. Schlitterbahn began expanding outside of New Braunfels in 2001 with the opening of Schlitterbahn Beach Waterpark on South Padre Island. The company recently announced plans to open a 300-acre, $412 million, Schlitterbahn Vacation Village in Kansas City, Kansas.
