I drove this ride when it was where Looping Starship ended up back when it was named Warp 10. I preferred it in the first location for a couple of reasons. First, it was silver and I thought it looked better that color. Second, it was on a retractable silver platform that was angled. The arms landed in the down position farther down and extended much higher into the air. The ride was much more exciting and you felt like you were really high up in the air. When it was moved to the Warp 2000 position, the platform was removed and the arms were re-adjusted to meet flat with the ground flat. So, the arms never extended as high into the air like this. The ride just wasn't the same after it moved to this location.
There was also an experiment while it was Warp 10 to reverse the rotation of the ride and/or ride arms making the centrifugal force much higher. That was cool while it lasted as the ride was definitely more exciting this way. Alas, it was rolled back to the previous rotation and subsequently felt slower. I'm sure the reverse rotation put excess stress on the ride itself, so that's probably why it was rolled back.. although, I never really knew why the experiment was even tried.
I'm still not exactly sure why the retractable platform was removed when it was moved to Plaza De Fiesta unless it just couldn't fit there. I don't recall the platform ever breaking down or being a problem when I drove the ride. |

Warp 10 / 2000 was a portable ride (Huss Troika) and was mounted on a trailer. The steel loading platform was sloped toward the center high enough to conceal the trailer wheels and frame underneath.
When the ride was first bought, they had originally planned to put it in a different location but decided instead to put it up front where the AstroWheel had recently been removed to help fill the big empty space it left behind.
A few years later when they moved it to its new home across the Park, they constructed a concrete pit to place the trailer in so that the base of the ride would sit closer to the ground. They did this for two main reasons: First, to make the ride look more like a permanent, park-model ride, and second, because the sloped steel platform could get very slippery when wet or with a small amount of leaked hydraulic oil on it. I am sure they wanted to reduce the liklihood of dizzy folks getting off the ride and slipping on the platform... |

I remember that, even when just wet that platform was slippery. Anyone remember the light package that was on Warp 2000 when it was installed?
It was beautiful but unfortunately some guest unscrewed a bulb, stuck his finger in the socket and was electrocuted during the 84 season senior night.
CPR was administered and the guy made it but the lights were removed.
I think that was the first Signal 1 I heard over the radio. |

Was Children's World located in the back of the park? Same area that had caves, climbing ropes, etc in the 80s/90s?
Thanks! |

Is that the River of No Return in the background? Looks like a couple of boats in a holding area? (in the top right hand corner of the picture) _________________ Last train departed the station Saturday, October 30, 2005. Gone but not forgotten - 38 years of wonderful memories! |
