I went to go see "Monty Python's Spamalot - The Musical" at the Grand 1894 Opera House on Saturday night... My buddy who was with me had never seen the Moody Gardens/Schlitterbahn area, so we drove over that way before heading to The Strand...
I didn't see any new vertical construction at all in the park, but did notice a few substantial improvements:
1.The F5-Twin Twister double helix slides have been painted/refinished with very opaque-looking white and dark grey colors... ...I guess to match their stormy theme...
2. There are more palapa/thatch strutures at the front entry.
I really hope there will be some other new attraction this year as there really hasn't been anything new since Blastenhoff opened in 2007 (other than upgraded signage, previously added palapa structures, and slight upgrades to Whitewater River)...
I still believe the empty pit at the north end of the large tent in Blastenhoff should be uprooted, and in its stead, a 4-6 slide body slide tower for adults (similar to the Bonsai Pipelines for kids in Surfenburg) w/ new splash pool should be added. It's the only basic type of waterslide Schlitterbahn Galveston lacks at a larger scale. |

Looks like we STILL have to wait to get details-details on the new Schlitterbahn Galveston Island attraction for within Blastenhoff, as apparently not too much was reviewed at the ACE event this weekend...
Apparently it's a family attraction with a "shipwreck" theme (that's all great and good, of course!), with more shaded seating/lounging integrated into it...
Here's the link to the event overviews at Theme Park Review (in the 6th photo, you can see where the F-5 Twin Twisters have been painted white and dark grey) -

Don't know about y'all, but I'm really disappointed in the new "Shipwreck Harbor" wave pool attraction being built for Schlitterbahn Galveston this summer season...
http://www.schlitterbahn.com/gal/new/
The park (especially Blastenhoff, where the new pool is going) is in need of more ride attractions, not another wave pool. That back corner of the park is in need of some height, too... activitiy just kind of subsides back there. And, anyway, it seems like the wave area at the very front of the park is enough of that kind of attraction for a Schlitterbahn-type of park.
Still not sure if I'm buying a Summer Pass this year yet, or not... |
