Anyone know if Six Flags would refund Coasterthon registration money to folks that decide not to go due to Hurricane Ike, if Ike comes our way here in the Houston area? Just curious.

That's going to be a question for the event organizers, which is the park. I would email David (regional rep) and ask him this so he can relay your question to them. That's a pretty unique situation for them to consider, so unique that I bet they haven't thought about yet.

At this point, there will be no refunds offered. If guests are unable to make the Sat morning registration, packets and shirts, etc, will be available at will call.

Looks like Ike is probably going to hit more to the south anyway. At least we have hotel reservations in Arlington if we do need to evacuate. Wink

The funny thing now is that the nasty rainy part of the storm looks like it will hook around and go right through Dallas Saturday evening. I guess we won't be coming after all...most of the rides might be "rained out" anyway. Rolling Eyes

I'm sure this goes without saying, but around 4 this afternoon, LSCT was not only cancelled, but corporate dropped the axe on even opening the park (and Fiesta Texas as well), which I expected.

Even without rain on Sunday, which is only forecast for the morning, they are expecting major cleanup for Sunday in the event that weather permits the park to reopen. Parts of the park lie in a flood plain, and if we get heavy enough rains for long enough, they'll have a pretty major task on their hands since it does not take much for Johnson Creek to flood its banks.

So did it rain enough in Arlington to warrant closure? I have a feeling this was more of an attendance issue....

No. The event could have gone on with only minor hiccups. We just got brushed by the outermost rain bands. I woke up at 10 minutes to 8 that morning and it hadn't even rained yet. Plus, we have that big gap in the schedule after lunch ended (2 PM) and the next ERT (8 PM.)

The wind was worse than the rain, and that was mostly off and on with a few pockets of heavier rain, but no thunderstorms, and it was over by 8:00 that night. The park didn't even flood.

Jeez. Great Job Six Flags! Cancel the event after everyone arrives in town.

Edit: How are they refunding registration costs?

Apparently the GM of SFoT argued with corporate to keep the park open...they refused.

There are no refunds planned at this time.

Thankfully, for those that hung around for Sunday, they were able to still enjoy the park with nearly no lines. We were able to ride all the coasters in a little more than a couple hours. The only line we actually waited in was for La Vibora which was maybe 10-15 minutes. Everything else was a walk on. People were still able to use the parking and admission tickets as well as the food coupons. Even got the 25% discount purchases. So for those that were patient, at least the weekend wasn't a total loss.

That kinda sucks for those who evacuated the other direction. I really think Six Flags should have refunded the money or postponed the entire event somehow...oh well.
